The FEI is looking for a Communications Officer with 100% rate of activity. The position is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the starting date is to be agreed upon.
Communications Officer
Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Media Relations & Operations is responsible for providing hands-on, cross-functional communications support across Media Relations & Operations, strengthening delivery resilience within a lean team by improving responsiveness, consistency, and quality of output across day-to-day communications and key FEI events.
The role requires a high degree of autonomy, strong editorial standards, and proactive coordination across the different FEI departments, ensuring alignment, efficiency, and high-quality delivery across all communications activities.
Key Responsibilities
Media Relations & Operations Support
- Support sport communications output and media relations delivery as assigned (drafting, distribution, media coordination and event support);
- Draft and publish approved updates across relevant channels under the direction of the Senior Manager, ensuring accuracy and consistency;
- Provide operational support to media operations at key FEI Events, including schedules, servicing coordination and on-site assistance; and
- Support drafting of briefing materials, Q&As and media replies for sport-related topics, ensuring factual accuracy and equine welfare sensitivity.
Proactive Coordination & Social Licence to Operate
- Proactively liaise with internal departments (including Sports & Games, Veterinary & Equine Welfare, Legal, Governance, Solidarity & Development, Technology Operations, Marketing and Events) to gather information, anticipate communications needs and support preparedness;
- Support fact-checking and documentation to ensure communications are accurate, credible and aligned with equine welfare expectations and social licence to operate priorities; and
- Escalate potential issues, sensitivities or inconsistencies promptly to the Senior Manager, Media Relations & Operations (and onward as required in line with FEI processes).
Administration
- Use and help optimise communications platforms, distribution lists and basic process documentation; and
- Provide occasional weekend on-call support as part of the team rota, primarily around major events.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or related field;
- 5+ years’ relevant experience in communications, media relations, corporate communications or stakeholder communications, ideally in an international environment;
- Strong editorial capability and excellent, native or near-native written English, with the ability to produce high-quality content independently;
- Strong coordination skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;
- Experience engaging with media and handling media enquiries in a professional environment;
- Comfort working on sensitive topics with high standards of discretion and accuracy;
- Understanding of equestrian sport and sensitivity to equine welfare topics a significant plus;
- French a plus; additional languages an asset.
